Consultant Fire Investigator

Lea McDonald is a consultant Fire Investigator with over 37 years’ experience in Firefighting and the subsequent investigation that takes place.

  • Over 25 years’ experience as a Fire Investigator.
  • Experienced in marine and vessel fire investigations.
  • Experienced in land-based fires, including port infrastructure.
  • More than 60 fatal fires attended and investigated during his career.
  • Experienced in presenting written and oral evidence in both Crown and Coroners Courts.

Having served in the British Fire Service, with over 31 years operational experience, Lea spent the last 8 years of his fire service career as a dedicated Fire Investigation officer within a large metropolitan brigade.  Following a career in the fire service, Lea continued as a consultant fire investigator within the private sector before joining Waves Group.

His experience spans a full range of incidents attended from large scale industrial to small domestic dwellings.  These include marine incidents within ports and involving vessels. He has attended over 200 incidents, involving fires and explosions as the lead investigator as well as assisting colleagues in their investigations.  These incidents included over 60 fatal fires involving suicides, accidental fire deaths and unlawful killings.

He has produced statements and reports as evidence to Crown Court, Coroners Court and representatives of the insurance industry, offering his opinion into the origin, cause and development of fire. Lea has also presented his evidence on many occasions orally in both Crown and Coroners Court.
