He has worked on projects in the UK and internationally, including a number of overseas postings.
Julian has particular experience in port infrastructure for liquid and dry bulk vessels, container vessels, ro-ro and ro-pax ferries and cruise vessels. His experience extends from berth and quay structures and breakwaters, to handling equipment including cranes, ship loaders and unloaders, conveyor systems and marine loading arms, and into the storage areas behind the quay. Julian also has experience in marinas and fishing harbours, as well as offshore support facilities for both the oil and gas sector and the renewables sector. His Commercial Diving qualifications enable Julian to provide all round management of port infrastructure inspections and assessments.
Since joining Waves Group, Julian has focussed on Fixed and Floating Object (FFO) damage and unsafe berth cases, providing high-level technical and financial advice to Insurers and P&I Clubs, lawyers, shipping companies and loss adjusters. He frequently attends overseas incidents, providing support and direction to correspondents and local surveyors, while liaising closely with remote clients. With his wide range of international experience, Julian is able to rapidly develop professional working relationships with all parties, clearly explain complex technical matters and assist in bringing cases to satisfactory conclusions.
Julian has prepared expert and joint expert reports for a range of port related matters, including the failure of port structures and infrastructure, and unsafe berth cases.
While his primary focus is on providing advice to the shipping and port insurance community, Julian continues to be involved in port-related projects, both in the UK and overseas.
