After 50 years operating in the international maritime industry, Captain Dirk Vande Velde’s global nature together with his business vision, leads us to interact with a diverse range of activities and stakeholders, with whom he is engaging in search of environmental, safety, security and social governance solutions. He is recognized for acting as a responsible person in the maritime world, promoting safe global trade. As a seaman he is very concerned about the wellbeing of our fellow human beings, and seeks to act as a catalyst in accelerating via pro-active risk assessments within the logistics supply chain to achieve zero accidents.
His approach is to place people front and center, and believes that operating these processes bring benefits to all humans, whether colleagues, or ships’ crew, shippers and consignors, people ashore or any person or community in which we are operating.
Except the creation of the Cargo Incident Notification System and Network – CINS – he realized with his colleagues from the maritime industry, that ensuring access to suitable procedures and guidelines should be available and in place in the event of an emergency. This is carried out via suitable and sufficient assessments of risks to health and safety. By carrying out those specific risk assessments presented to vulnerable person(s), Root Causes and “ Lessons Learned” can be implemented to avoid re-occurrence. The welfare of all employees and others through operational best practices is a necessity and obligation.
