Yan Naung Aye

Naval Architect

Yan is a Naval Architect and Marine Technologist with over 10 years of experience delivering solutions across the offshore marine and energy innovation sectors. He holds an MSc in Marine Technology from the University of Strathclyde and is completing a PhD at Newcastle University, specialising in renewable energy generation from flow-induced vibrations.

  • Naval Architecture & Hydrodynamics
  • Heavy Lift & Marine Transportation
  • Offshore Operations & Rig Moving
  • Wind Turbine Installation & Renewable Energy

Yan’s expertise spans the full project lifecycle, from naval architecture and hydrodynamics to heavy lift, marine transportation, and complex offshore operations. He has a proven track record of supporting a diverse range of clients, including energy majors such as Shell, ExxonMobil, and Saudi Aramco, as well as heavy lift vessel operators, Marine Warranty Surveyors (MWS), and commercial teams.

His hands-on project experience is extensive and global. He has managed in-field liftboat rig move operations, engineered dry-tow and wet-tow liftboat transportation projects from Southeast Asia to the Middle East and Africa, and contributed to a significant wind turbine installation project. Furthermore, Yan has successfully engineered and supervised numerous SPMT loadout operations and heavy lifting projects.

Complementing his commercial work, Yan has deep technical expertise in the hydrodynamic analysis of marine structures. His research involves developing mathematical hydrodynamic models, conducting numerical investigations on structural integrity, and performing experimental analysis in hydrodynamic laboratory.
