Waves Group appoints Capt. Tushar Potey as Associate Director - Operations

Promotion strengthens operational leadership across complex casualty, litigation and Marine Warranty Survey projects.

LONDON, UK | SEPTEMBER 2026

Waves Group is pleased to announce the appointment of Capt. Tushar Potey as Associate Director – Operations. The planned promotion strengthens operational leadership for the Group’s growing portfolio of complex energy, casualty and litigation projects.

Working closely with project managers, Tushar will oversee coordination across major casualty matters and all Marine Warranty Survey (MWS) projects. His remit runs from contract award and systems set-up through resourcing, planning, document control, execution, financial management and invoicing, linking technical delivery with the commercial and administrative disciplines that keep projects on track.

Tushar brings 32 years of maritime industry experience, including 22 years at sea and more than seven years in command, providing a strong practical understanding of how vessels, cargoes, people and systems perform and interact in demanding operational environments. His experience across tankers, bulk carriers, OBOs, container vessels and specialist offshore units enables him to anticipate operational challenges, assess risks, identify resource requirements and support sound, timely decisions based on extensive first-hand experience.

This extensive operational foundation is further strengthened by a broad academic background, including multiple higher educational qualifications and an LLM in Admiralty Law, complemented by senior experience leading global claims for a major container shipping line. The combination of substantial practical experience, advanced legal education and senior claims leadership provides Tushar with a well-rounded perspective across operational, technical, legal and commercial matters, enabling him to assess complex issues comprehensively and provide clear, well-informed direction.

Having investigated significant casualties and managed complex claims for shipowners and P&I Clubs, Tushar brings a strong appreciation of the importance of robust documentation, clear contractual controls, effective stakeholder management and disciplined financial oversight. His experience across MWS, offshore wind, decommissioning and wreck removal further enables him to provide continuity and informed oversight from initial planning through execution and close-out.

Tushar’s previous experience as a maritime lecturer, teaching subjects including Marine Insurance, Admiralty Law, Surveying for Ship Masters and MSc-level, further demonstrates his ability to translate complex technical, legal and operational matters into clear, practical direction. Working alongside an established and highly experienced internal operational team, he will provide project managers with coordinated, commercially aware and technically grounded support throughout the project lifecycle, helping ensure that operational delivery, risk management and client objectives remain aligned.

Tushar has played an increasingly important role in the way we coordinate and deliver complex projects across the business. His seagoing background, litigation and claims experience, and hands-on work in marine casualty, offshore energy, decommissioning and wreck removal projects give him a rare breadth of perspective. This appointment recognises the contribution he is already making and gives him a clear mandate to strengthen our operational systems and support project teams from award through to completion.

Nigel James, Operations Director, Waves Group

The Board and leadership team congratulate Tushar and look forward to his contribution as Waves Group continues to strengthen its operational capability worldwide.
