Representing Waves Group at this year’s meeting are Nigel James and Paul Coates. Paul will be presenting as part of Session 4: Case Studies on Day 2 of the event, delivering a focused session on:

Responding to – and Investigating – Container Vessel Fires
This presentation will address:
• The top 4 CINS incident types
• Gaps in the IMDG Code
• Firefighting advice and practical guidance for onboard and in-port scenarios
• Hazmat response considerations
• Fire investigation methodology

Paul Coates brings a wealth of operational and investigative experience to this topic. His background includes extensive work in Incident Command, Firefighting, Fire Investigation, and Hazardous Materials (Hazmat) response. He has investigated major shipboard fires on behalf of P&I Clubs, H&M insurers, and other interested parties. His expertise includes:
• Vessel fire emergency response
• Fire and firefighting investigation
• Vessel hazmat response
• Lithium-ion battery and EV fire response

With increasing attention on the risks associated with containerised cargo – particularly dangerous goods and emerging energy storage technologies – events like the CINS meeting are a critical platform for collaboration and shared learning across the industry.

We look forward to engaging with fellow participants over the course of the event and continuing the conversation around improved safety, risk mitigation, and technical response.
