Complex Cargoes, Clear Conversations: Waves Group Supports WISTA UK in Newcastle
Waves Group were delighted to participate in the recent WISTA UK event in Newcastle on 9 September: “Is it worth it? From Dirty Petroleum Products to Clean Petroleum Products.”
The evening was a great opportunity to connect with industry peers and take part in an insightful and worthwhile discussion that highlighted the very complex practice of switching from carrying dirty petroleum products (DPP) to clean petroleum products (CPP). Each of the panellists shared their own in-depth knowledge of this process, exploring the technical, operational, legal, and regulatory challenges shipowners must navigate, as well as the potential opportunities it presents.
The distinguished panel, moderated by Alexandra Davison, Head of FD&D Claims, NorthStandard, featured:
- Dharinnni Kesavan, Senior P&I Claims Executive, NorthStandard
- Caroline Scherrer, Consultant Chemist, Minton, Treharne & Davies Group
- Helene Peter-Davies, Legal Director and Master Mariner, Hill Dickinson (London)
- Amy Cope, Legal Director, Hill Dickinson (Newcastle)
Representing Waves Group, Mike O’Rourke and Daniel Barton, both Marine Engineers at Waves Group, attended the event and joined in conversations with attendees. Reflecting on the evening, Mike noted:
“An interesting and worthwhile discussion which highlighted the very complex practice of changing from carrying dirty petroleum products to clean petroleum products, with all four of the ladies on the panel sharing their own in-depth knowledge of this process.”
Waves Group has been a long-term supporter of WISTA UK and WISTA International, recognising the organisation’s valuable role in creating platforms for knowledge exchange, networking, and driving positive change across the maritime sector. We are also proud to work closely with the team at NorthStandard, whose ongoing support of WISTA helps ensure that these events continue to deliver meaningful insights for the industry.
Looking ahead, Waves Group is excited to continue its engagement with WISTA, particularly through the upcoming WISTA UK programme of events at London International Shipping Week 2025, where discussions will no doubt continue around the evolving challenges and opportunities shaping global shipping.
