The Energy Lead – APAC is responsible for leading the development and growth of Waves Group’s Energy business throughout the Asia-Pacific region.

The role is primarily focused on business development, client engagement and market expansion, while also providing technical consultancy, project delivery and regional leadership to support the establishment of a sustainable Energy business across offshore renewable energy, with a particular focus on offshore wind, together with the wider energy and marine sectors.

Reporting to the APAC Regional Manager, the role works closely with the Engineering Director and Business Development Director – Energy to develop client relationships, secure new work and deliver high-quality technical services across the region. The role also supports the establishment and management of representatives, strategic partnerships and satellite offices as the business expands.

The successful candidate will act as both the commercial and technical interface with clients and is expected to maintain an appropriate level of chargeable utilisation through consultancy, project management and engineering support, commensurate with business development commitments and their technical expertise.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement the regional strategy for Waves Group’s Energy business across the Asia-Pacific region and align with the Waves Group APAC Regional Manager on the overall growth strategy for the region.
  • Identify, pursue and secure new opportunities across offshore renewable energy, particularly offshore wind, together with the wider energy and marine sectors.
  • Develop and maintain strategic account plans for key clients, generating sustainable growth and repeat business.
  • Develop and maintain a robust regional opportunity pipeline, ensuring accurate CRM management, forecasting and reporting.
  • Develop and maintain long-term relationships with developers, operators, contractors, insurers, investors, government organisations and other key stakeholders.
  • Lead client meetings, presentations, conferences, exhibitions, networking events and industry engagement to strengthen Waves Group’s profile within the region.
  • Develop and manage regional representatives, “agents”, strategic partners and satellite offices in line with the Energy business growth.
  • Support and lead the preparation of proposals, technical submissions and commercial offers.
  • Provide technical consultancy, project management and engineering support where appropriate, ensuring successful delivery of projects and maintaining an appropriate level of chargeable utilisation.
  • Coordinate regional resources and collaborate with engineering teams to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Provide market intelligence, competitor analysis and strategic advice to support business planning and investment decisions.
  • Ensure compliance with Company HSE, quality and risk management systems.

Authority and Decision Making

  • Lead the development of the Company’s Energy business throughout the Asia-Pacific region.
  • Develop and manage client relationships and regional business opportunities.
  • Contribute to commercial proposals, contract negotiations and project planning.
  • Manage consultancy assignments and engineering projects where appropriate.
  • Support recruitment, development and mentoring of regional personnel.
  • Exercise professional judgement in balancing business development, technical delivery and regional growth objectives.

Person Specification

Qualifications
Relevant engineering, marine or technical degree or equivalent professional experience.

Experience

  • Extensive experience delivering engineering consultancy or technical advisory services within offshore renewable energy, marine or related sectors.
  • Demonstrable experience of business development, client relationship management and developing sustainable business growth.
  • Experience managing consultancy assignments or engineering projects.
  • Experience working within the Asia-Pacific region would be advantageous.

This role provides the opportunity to establish and grow Waves Group’s Energy business throughout the Asia-Pacific region. The successful candidate will play a leading role in developing a sustainable regional presence through business development, technical consultancy, project delivery, strategic partnerships and local representatives, supporting the continued international expansion of the Company’s engineering and consultancy services.

The role is expected to maintain a level of chargeable utilisation appropriate to the maturity of the regional business, recognising that the primary focus will be the development of long-term, sustainable business growth.
