Waves Group to Join Global Salvage & Wreck Forum 2025

Waves Group will once again be participating in this year’s Global Salvage & Wreck Forum, taking place in London on 10–11 December 2025, as both sponsors and exhibitors.

Delivered in collaboration with the International Salvage Union (ISU), the International Group of P&I Clubs (IGP&I) and the International Underwriting Association (IUA), the Forum brings together shipowners, insurers, coastal authorities, and technical specialists to discuss the latest developments in casualty response, wreck removal, and complex marine operations.

Waves Group on the Panel: “Cold Front – Confronting the Challenges of Maritime Casualty Response in the Arctic”

As part of the two-day event, Simon Burnay, CEO of Waves Group, will join a high-profile panel discussion titled: “Cold Front: Confronting the Challenges of Maritime Casualty Response in the Arctic.”

The session will explore the rise in maritime activity in Arctic waters, from commercial shipping to energy and tourism and the unique operational, logistical, legal, and environmental challenges that come with responding to incidents in this harsh and remote environment.

Drawing on his extensive experience as a Special Casualty Representative (SCR) and more than 26 years in casualty investigation and management, Simon will offer insight into the realities of managing complex casualty and wreck response operations in extreme and isolated conditions. His expertise spans major global incidents involving wreck removal, salvage, and emergency response, bringing a valuable real-world perspective to the discussion.

Key discussion themes include:

  • Remoteness and lack of infrastructure in Arctic regions
  • Limited salvage capability and resource mobilisation
  • Operational and environmental risks in extreme weather
  • Equipment and logistical constraints
  • Legal and jurisdictional complexities under the Polar Code
  • Environmental and cultural sensitivities affecting response efforts

The Global Salvage & Wreck Forum remains one of the maritime sector’s most respected platforms for exploring best practices, technical advances, and evolving regulations surrounding casualty response and wreck removal.
