Waves Group at the NIORD London Wind Academy 2025
Sharing practical insight on offshore wind risk and innovation
On 5 November 2025, members of the Waves Group team took part in the NIORD London Wind Academy, held at the Lloyd’s Building in London. The event brought together specialists from across the offshore wind, insurance, and engineering communities to explore some of the key issues shaping today’s market, from contract wording and coverage scope to claims experience and lessons learned from real projects.
Representing Waves Group were Warren Inniss, Roberto Tuda, Chris Zammit and Bertie Taylor, from the Energy and subsea cable teams. With decades of hands-on project experience behind them, the team joined discussions on where engineering realities meet insurance conditions, and how closer collaboration across disciplines can help the industry move forward with more clarity and less uncertainty.
Bringing real-world experience to the table
At Waves Group, we work on a wide range of offshore wind and subsea projects, from early design reviews through to transport, installation, and operational challenges. Our engineers, mariners, and warranty specialists have seen first-hand how small details can make a big difference once a project moves offshore.
That practical background meant our team could add perspective to the Academy’s conversations around risk, liability, and how wording in policies connects to real operations. As always, our focus remains on helping clients understand what’s happening beneath the surface, technically, commercially, and contractually.
Exploring new ways to support safer, smarter projects
Alongside our day-to-day project work, we’re also backing a new proof-of-concept trial led by Richard Hill, one of our Subsea Cable Specialists. The initiative will test and compare advanced cable monitoring techniques aimed at improving how subsea power cables are handled and protected during installation and operation.
It’s still early days, but we’re already talking to potential partners and funders in the UK and Europe. The aim is simple: to help the industry better understand cable behaviour in real-world conditions and share what’s learned openly with the sector.
Continuing the conversation
We’ve recently held a number of workshops and briefings on offshore wind risk, cable performance, and insurance interaction, and we’re always happy to arrange more.
If you’d like to talk to the team, request a session, or find out more about what we’re working on, please get in touch with Charlotte Ward at [email protected] who can connect you with the right specialists.
Working together to deliver certainty
Waves Group’s strength lies in our people, experienced engineers and mariners who’ve spent years offshore, now applying that knowledge to help clients plan and deliver projects with confidence.
Whether we’re providing marine assurance, investigating failures, or developing new tools for the future, our approach stays the same: independent, practical, and focused on solutions that work in the real world.
