2026 Southampton Marine Course 30 June - 1 July

Building on more than 15 years of success, the Waves Group Marine Course delivers a practical, immersive introduction to port and vessel operations.

Delivered by Waves Group specialists alongside operational partners in Southampton, this two-day interactive programme provides marine claims handlers, insurers and maritime professionals with real-world insight into how vessels and ports operate and what happens when things go wrong.

This is not a classroom-only course. It is hands-on, scenario-led and operationally grounded.

Over two intensive days, delegates will experience:

  • Close-Up View of Vessels and Port Operations
  • On-site exposure within the Port of Southampton, observing vessel movements and operational interfaces.
  • Ship Handling Centre – Navigational Demonstrations
  • Practical navigational demonstrations within Solent University’s industry-leading training facilities, offering insight into vessel manoeuvring and bridge operations.
  • Boat Tour of Southampton Docks- A guided tour of the docks with access to a working vessel’s bridge and engine room, providing operational context rarely available to shore-based professionals.
  • Fire & Hazmat Scenarios – Including hands-on fire exercise and practical response discussion to understand onboard emergency management and casualty response considerations.

Venue

The course is based in Southampton on board the historic SS Shieldhall, moored in the heart of the docks, at Solent University’s specialist maritime training facilities and within the operational Port of Southampton.

This unique combination provides an intensive and highly practical learning experience.
