Sebastiaan (Bas) Coppes is a consultant with three decades of experience and extensive knowledge of marine, salvage and offshore operations. He has worked both at sea and onshore within the shipping, offshore, ocean towage, dredging, heavy lift and transport, salvage and wreck removal and has an in-depth knowledge of the operations.

He is a Lloyd’s Special Casualty Representative (SCR) and has extensive experience within all aspects of maritime casualty response, salvage, wreck removal, incident management, investigations and has been involved in numerous salvage and wreck removal projects.
He has experience in oil spill response operations and dealing with the Coast Guards around the world and specifically the US and Canadian Incident Command organisation.
His portfolio includes the technical and commercial risk assessments in conjunction with the management of tenders for complex wreck removal operations. He has also managed tenders and has experience within the oil and gas industry in the decommissioning of offshore platforms.
He has submitted expert witness reports and testified in arbitration and US courts and has substantial experience with BIMCO contracts, LOF and charter parties. He is a Certified Maritime Arbitrator and Expert witness with the Houston Maritime Arbitrators’ Association.
The unique combination of his background gives him the ability to have a comprehensive overview of the case and makes him the ideal advisor in the complex cases.
His ship building and ship repair know how involves making several hundred plans and estimates for ship repairs, conversions and new building including exchanging main engines, lengthening of vessels, Dynamic Positioning conversions, major engine room and steel repairs of all kinds of vessels and offshore rigs.
His marine warranty experience includes oil, gas, jacket, topside and subsea pipeline installation and decommissioning, towage approvals, pipe-lay and shore-pull operations, dive and saturation support, supply and heavy-lift vessels, anchor handling tugs and jack-up barges.
